Can I transfer my eSIM to another phone?

In most cases, no: a travel eSIM is tied to the phone where you install it, so once it is set up it usually cannot be moved to another device on your own. If you have not installed it yet, you are free to choose which phone to install it on. If you already installed it and switched phones, the right step is to ask your provider's support whether the profile can be reissued.

Why an eSIM is hard to move

An eSIM is a profile stored securely inside the phone, not a chip you can remove. Unlike a physical SIM you can pop out and reinsert in a new device, the profile is written to the phone during install and is generally bound to it. Some phones offer a phone-to-phone eSIM transfer feature, but it depends on both devices and on the provider allowing it, and many travel eSIMs do not support being moved after install.

If you have not installed it yet

  1. Decide which phone you will actually travel with.
  2. Install the eSIM on that phone using the QR code or activation details you received.
  3. Keep the same phone for the whole trip so the plan stays active.

If you already installed it and changed phones

Do not assume the plan will reappear on the new phone by itself. Contact your provider's support with your order details and ask whether the profile can be reissued for the new device. Reissuing is not always possible, so it helps to plan any device change before you install or before you travel.

FAQ

Can I use one eSIM on two phones at the same time?
No. A single eSIM profile is meant for one device at a time, so it cannot run on two phones simultaneously.
I am getting a new iPhone before my trip. What should I do?
If possible, wait and install the eSIM on the new iPhone, since installing on your current phone first can tie the plan to a device you will not be traveling with. If it is already installed, contact support to ask about reissuing it for the new phone.
